Research

The chair pursues research mainly in the areas of applied international and public economics and in applied econometrics. Research output is disseminated mainly via two channels: presentations at international conferences and workshops and publications in leading academic journals in economics.

Research Fields

In particular, we are interested in applying microeconometric methods and econometric models with spatial interdependence across cross sectional units of observation. In this area, members of the chair collaborate internationally with the following scholars (in alphabetical order):

In particular, we are interested in considering the determinants and consequences of trade and multinational activity at the micro level. We also consider determinants and effects of mergers, and more recently, the determinants and consequences of financial constraints and executive compensation. In this area, members of the chair collaborate internationally with the following scholars (in alphabetical order):

In this area, we are interested in the determinants and consequences of trade and multinational activity at the macro level. In particular, we develop structural models of trade flows to estimate the consequences of shocks in trade frictions on trade, GDP, and welfare. Finally, we are interested in the role of labor market imperfections on trade and factor mobility as well as the macro consequences of finance and governance. In this area, members of the chair collaborate internationally with the following scholars (in alphabetical order):

A key focus of interest of members of the chair in this area is to develop and estimate models of tax competition. In some of our related work, we put special emphasis on the role of political economy forces for taxes and government expenditures. Inter alia, we conduct work at various levels of regional aggregation. In this area, members of the chair collaborate internationally with the following scholars (in alphabetical order):

Members of the department conduct research in regional economics in particular at the interface to international economics and public finance. We are interested in regional tax competition, the factor mobility across regions and the role of labor market imperfections for that, as well as the evaluation of regional support programs for outcome.
